Samui Activities

Golf Courses
Courses can be found for both golf and miniature golf on the island. Boasting one of the most stunning courses is the 18 hole international standard Santiburi Golf Course is situated not so far from Maenam on the North East of Samui. A new golf course is currently being built in North Lamai, close to Ao Thong Takian and the IT Complex. Those looking for a bit of fun can find Miniature golf at Chaweng and Bo Phut. If you need a practice before you set out then there are now several driving ranges in Lamai and Bo Phut.

Shooting Range
A 5 minute drive from the Tesco Lotus complex is the Samui Shooting Range. Here you can try from a number of different guns to see if you have what it takes to be a lethal weapon.

Samui Go-Kart
Samui’s outdoor Go-Kart track is found to the North of the island close to Maenam. On this 400metre track you can live life on the edge, choose from one of 3 levels of kart and test yourself against the clock. Open daily from 09:00am – till late.

Ten Pin Bowling & Cinema
The Island now has two ten pin bowling allies and both can be found in Chaweng. The latest addition is Mega Bowl which is located in the Tesco Lotus shopping center. Not just a typical bowling ally except for the fact that the outskirts of the block are VIP karaoke booths for those those who feel a little Tina Turner coming on. Next door to the bowling are the Islands one and only multi screen cinema.  Cinema listings are dotted about the Tesco Lotus complex and you always have the latest Hollywood blockbuster available for show. Thailand’s cinema’s however a little difference has in that you must stand for the Kings anthem before your chosen listing is played.

Thai cooking
Cookery courses are an increasingly popular activity on the island with the growing interest in Thai cuisine. The largest independent school on the island is that of SITCA (Samui Institute of Culinary Arts) and has two courses a day, with a separate food carving course, a well stocked shop and an excellent restaurant. Another popular school is the less known Siam Kitchens located in Lamai beach and run solely by Khun Sont.  He offers a wide range of menu’s that you can choose from and also takes you on a shopping trip to the fresh market to tell you how to shop for the best ingredients available.  For more info check www.siamkitchen.net

Muaythai/Thaiboxing
Muaythai is no longer a minority sport with the Thai people dominating all fields as it is their national sport.  Now Thaiboxing gyms and events are held worldwide but how could you come to the birth palce of such an action packed spectacle without stopping at one of the purpose built stadiums in Thailand. Here in Samui there are three stadiums, one in Lamai and two in Chaweng. The most modern and probably popular is the Petchbuncha stadium on Chaweng beach.  Here contests are held three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights at a kick off time of 21:00pm.
If you should decide that you would like to try this exciting sport then there are many gyms on the island too. By far the most popular is the WMC Camp on Lamai beach which boasts some of the greatest trainers to have competed on the Thai scene. The camp has classes twice daily every day of the week except Sunday at 07:00am and 17:00pm.

Tattoo Artists
Due to the growing popularity of body art the number of tattoo artists has grown on Samui Island. Now both Western and Thai artists can be found here but samui-rooms.com recommends only one artist and that is Chili Joe.  Chili Joe’s studio can be found on Lamai beach opposite the Golden Sands resort.  He is an award winning artist and has worked all over Europe with some of the world’s best known artists. He is also one of the few artists that can guarantee all the necessary sterilization equipment.  It is arguably that he is the best artist in Thailand but he certainly is the best on Samui.  Visit Joe @ www.chilijoe.com for more details.

Kite Surfing
Forget windsurfing, the latest craze to hit the seas has arrived now landed on Samui and in style. On the beach just behind Samui Orchid Resort (Tiger Zoo) in Laem Set, the Koh Samui Kite Centre can be found.  Professional tuition available for those first timers and if you already got the skills you can simply rent the equipment. The location couldn’t be better and benefits from a shallow sandy bay, just perfect for beginners. November to March is when the wind blows north easterly to easterly between 8 to 20 knots and is probably the best time to go.

Freshwater fishing
Relatively new to Samui is ‘Top Cats’ a freshwater fishing facility that caters for people with big game in mind. With more than 4000 fish and around 20 different species in their 2 man made lakes it is up to you to bring in the one which didn’t get away. You don’t even have to worry if you have never fished before, with expert guidance on hand you’ll be sure to make it a day never to forget. Top Cats also has a bar and restaurant with a large swimming pool close by for those who wish to relax after a tough days fishing.  No equipment necessary, all you need is yourself and your wits about you.
